Port drayage
Container drayage at five U.S. port terminals
Off the terminal, onto our chassis, into the building — with the appointment, the chassis and the free-time clock managed by the people who own the dock at the other end.
Drayage is the leg where import programs quietly lose money. Demurrage runs while a container sits on the terminal; per diem runs while the chassis sits at your door; and when the drayman and the warehouse are two different companies, neither one is watching both clocks. AppiaWay drays from the Northwest Seaport Alliance terminals in Tacoma and Seattle, from Los Angeles and Long Beach, and from the Port of Charleston.
Why this is not just another broker. Digital-only brokers sell you a screen and go quiet when capacity tightens. AppiaWay is the brokerage arm of a 55-year asset-based operation, so behind the load board there are real trucks, real chassis and 1.54 million square feet of dock. When the market turns, the plan holds.
Need the warehouse as well as the truck? That side runs through Regal Logistics — same company, same platform, one invoice.
What is covered
Terminal to door, on one clock
Terminal pickup and appointments
Appointment booking, terminal fee handling and container tracking from discharge to gate-out. Free time is monitored against the actual availability date, not the estimate.
- Import pickup and export return moves
- Terminal appointment scheduling
- Last-free-day monitoring and alerts
- Demurrage and per diem exposure reporting
Chassis
Chassis provision and management handled as part of the move, including pool arrangements where the terminal supports them. Chassis split charges are the most common surprise on a drayage invoice and the easiest to design out.
- Chassis provision and pool access
- Split-move avoidance where the terminal allows
- Tri-axle and specialised equipment on request
Transload and cross-dock at the far end
Because the destination dock is part of the same company, a container can be stripped and reloaded into a domestic trailer on arrival rather than moved twice. On long-haul programs that recovers most of the cost that container-on-chassis line-haul gives away.
- Ocean container to domestic trailer transload
- Floor-loaded to palletised conversion
- Same-day cross-dock to outbound
- Import deconsolidation by purchase order or vendor
Bonded and CFS moves
In-bond movement and Container Freight Station handling are available through the Fife facility, which holds U.S. Customs-bonded warehouse and CFS designations.
- In-bond container movement
- Container Freight Station handling
- Customs examination support
Visibility
Container status, appointment, gate-out and delivery events land on one board rather than in a chain of emails. The same board carries your FTL and LTL freight, so a shipment does not disappear when it changes mode.
- Live container and shipment status
- Milestone and exception alerts
- One view across drayage, FTL and LTL

Common questions
Which ports do you dray from?
The Port of Tacoma and the Port of Seattle through the Northwest Seaport Alliance, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the Port of Charleston.
Do you provide chassis?
Yes. Chassis provision and management are part of the drayage service, including pool access where the terminal supports it.
How do you keep demurrage and per diem down?
Free time is tracked against the container's actual availability date and the delivery appointment is planned around it. Because the receiving dock is part of the same company, the container is pulled when the door is genuinely ready rather than when a third party gets to it.
Can you transload at the destination?
Yes. Ocean containers can be stripped and reloaded into domestic trailers on arrival, which is usually cheaper than moving a container on chassis over any real distance.
Are you a broker or a carrier?
Both are available. AppiaWay holds broker authority under MC 139101 and USDOT 023218, and it is the brokerage arm of Regal Logistics, an asset-based operator with its own trucks and warehouses. You get brokered capacity when that is the right answer and owned equipment when it is.
